强调自我治理的共和主义公民身份理念最早可追溯到古希腊的城邦时代。根据这种理念,公民身份的根本目的是自由,这种自由不仅是公民个人的诉求,也是共和国的理想,只有在一个自由共和国中,个人自由才有可能;维持自由不仅需要混合均衡的共和制度,还亟需公民对公共生活的自我治理;而要确保共和制度的有效运作和公民的积极参与,公民美德以及与此相关的美德教育就是不可或缺的。在自由主义话语大行其道的今天,共和主义的公民身份理念对于克服自由主义公民身份以权利为本位的占有性个人主义倾向以及矫治自由主义民主政治的市场化和弱化具有重大的价值。

The republican citizenship that is emphasis on self-governance can be traced back to ancient Greek city-states. According to this concept, the fundamental goal of citizenship is freedom, and only in a free republic,can individual freedom be possible. In order to maintain freedom,we need not only a balanced mix of the Republican regime but also citizen＇s self-governance in public life. To ensure the effective functioning of the Republican system and the active participation of citizens, civic virtue and civic education is indispensable. It is of great value and significance for republican citizenship to overcome rights-based individualism of the liberal citizenship and weakening of the liberal democracy.
