图书馆与信息-知识资源、信息技术、社会发展和人类文明的历史进步具有直接的和内在的联系。由此决定了以图书馆为基本研究对象的图书馆学是一门以人文社会科学为基础,以揭示图书馆本质和规律为目的,标志人和人类社会文化更新、社会发展和文明进步历史高度的综合性、应用性交叉学科。图书馆以人文为本质属性,以信息资源共享为基本手段和社会功能,以满足社会信息需求为生存依据和社会目标,以推进人类文明的提升和进步为价值追求。为了从人文本质、社会功能和历史价值三个方面全面揭示图书馆的本质和规律,本文从当代图书馆和图书馆学发展的时代背景、理论发展趋势、理论基点和基本内容等方面,系统阐述了功能图书馆学的理论构建问题。

Libraries have a kind of direct and inherent contact social development, and historical progress of human civilization. It is with info- knowledge resources, informational technology, this contact that determines the discipline nature of Library Science which takes libraries as its basic research object. It is a comprehensive, applied, and cross - disciplines - researched specialty which is based on humanities and social science. Its academic goal is to open out essence and developing law of libraries, marking the history level of. culture renewing, social evolution and civilization advancement of people and human society. Humanity is the essential property of library. Making information resources getting shared among the whole society is library＇s social function and basic social means. To satisfy information requirement of certain society is its foundation of social survival and social objective. And to promote advancement of human civilization is its value pursuance. In order to tully open out essence and the inherent law of movement of library from three aspects, human essence, social function, and historical value, this paper expounds and discusses the establishment of Library Science of Function systematically, involving contemporary libraries and Library Science＇s era setting, basic trend of development of its theory research, base point and main content of its theory.
