Public, private, corporate, and political life has entered the era of climate change and undertaken a journey with no end in sight. Climate change presents Melbourne, Australia not with one major challenge, but with two. Firstly, the city must prepare for the impacts of climate change and undertake necessary adaptation measures. Secondly, Melbourne will have to lower its greenhouse gas emissions from an economy that is dependent on fossil fuels. Responses to several key issues are examined in this paper and reviewed with a view to forming conclusions over the implications of these issues for the future of the city.
