Rose and Thorn: Interpretation on Hero's and Heroine's Perception of Love in The Thorn Birds Based on Gender Characteristics

性别身份是人类身份的首要构成因素,性别特征的形成和变化与主人公所处的社会背景、宗教信仰、个体身心发展等有着密切的联系。本文从《荆棘鸟》男女主人公不同时期所具备的性别特征的角度解读其爱情观之变化。透过性别特征这一视角,本文剖析男女主人公在父权制下悲情爱情选择的缘由。

Gender identification is the primary element of human identification and the formation and change of sexuality bears close relation to the social background, religious belief, individual physical and psychologieal development. Based on this, in the aritcle it analyzes the hero＇ s and the heroine＇ s perception of love from the point Of view of male and female sexuality at the different stages of their lives in the novel The Thorn Birds. From this persepctive it penetrates the reason for their choice of the tragic love under patriarchy. Their love is the thorn as well as the rose.
