Analysis of Latin America's Currency Integration on the basis of OCA theory

在最优货币区内实行货币一体化(即货币统一)需具备一些条件,依据最优货币区基本理论,从贸易相互依存和经济开放程度、劳动力流动性、宏观经济趋同和波动三个方面,讨论拉美地区实行货币一体化的可行性。当前拉美货币一体化进程表现出两种倾向,即美元化和创建独立自主的货币金融体系。

Several conditions are required to realize currency integration （namely, currency unification） within any optimal currency area （OCA）. On the basis of the basic theory of optimal currency areas, this article discusses the feasibility of implementing currency integration in Latin America from three aspects, namely, trade interdependence and degree of openness, labour mobility, macroeconomic convergence and volatility. Currently, the currency integration process in Latin America has exhibited two tendencies, they are the tendency of dollarisation and the tendency of creating an independent and autonomous monetary and financial system.
