Spread of Western Medicine into the East of Zhejiang Province:An Investigation ofNingbo Huamei Hospital

宁波华美医院是美国基督教浸礼会传教士在宁波开办的教会医院,是美国浸礼会在宁波传播基督教的重要基地。该院自创办以来积极适应中国国情与地方社会特点,同时得到了教会组织以及地方社会的大力支持,从而成为近代宁波最有影响力的公共医疗机构。不仅为提高近代宁波人的健康水平做出了重要贡献,而且推动了近代宁波人对西医乃至西方文明的认同与接纳。

Ningbo Huamei Hospital is a church hospital which was set up by American Christian Baptist missionaries in Ningbo. It was an important base where American Baptists spread the Christianity in China. Huamei hospital adapted to China＇s national conditions and local social characteristics which got the support from church organizations and local community, thus became the most influential public medical institution in Modem Ningbo. It not only contributed to the improvement of health condition of modem Ningbonese, but also promoted their identification and acceptance to Western medicine and even Western civilization.
