摘要
万花筒项目是美国高等教育界在美国科学技术优势受到挑战、大学生选择理工类专业的比例下降以及信息技术革命对教学的冲击等背景下,兴起的理工科教育改革计划。到目前,它已经走过了五个发展阶段。它有自己明确的使命、愿景和目标,并开展了广泛的行动。其行动意义主要体现在自愿性、自觉性、基础性和广泛性上。我国加强本科生理工科教育除了借鉴万花筒项目的经验外,还需要从组织建设、资金保障等方面做许多具体的工作。
Project Kaleidoscope(PKAL)is one of the leading advocates in the United States for what works in building and sustaining strong undergraduate programs in the fields of science,technology,engineering and mathematics(STEM).It is a response to the situation that America's leading position in technology is challenged,that the percentage of university students choosing to major in science and engineering descends,and that conventional teaching faces the challenge of information technology.It has been working since 1989.It has specific mission,vision,and goals,and implements broad action.Its values lie in the voluntary attending,the consciousness,the universality,and the basics.It provides some good strategies for promoting undergraduate STEM education.
