A rare earth coordination catalyst system: Nd(P507)3H2OAl(iBu)3 was used for isospecific polymerization of styrene. The polymers were extracted with boiling 2butanone. 13C NMR and DSC data indicate that the extracted polystyrene is highly isotactic. The isospecificity is sensitive to the water added in the system. The conversion and isospecificity reach maximums at H2O/Al(iBu)3 molar ratio of 005￣008.
