These principles suited the social re- quirement of scholarship of the time, so were reasonable, but they led Cui＇s studies to some limitations such as the lack of proof or the arbitrariness of conclusion. The analysis of Cui＇s principles of defending conventional feudal values and respecting Confucianism is helpful to understand objectively and appraise fairly Cui＇s achievements in the field of Chinese ancient history studies.
