Based on historical data, the paper probes into the Japanese Emperor's dresses under the system of laws and decrees, analyses, in design, their similarities and differences with imperial robes with twelve ornamental patterns in feudal China, dissects the differences between the Chinese and Japanese systems in imperial/ceremonial dresses and robes and the causes for them, and lastly introduces the views of the Japanese academic circle, explaining the essence of the Japanese decree on dresses.
