中学教育是近代普通教育体系的重要一环,清末河南的中学教育于相对急促中草草创立。在此过程中,省内各府州中学堂的设置规模不等,早晚不一,表现出了明显的地域差异。通过对各中学堂的存续年数、教职员数、开设科目数、年支经费数、培养学生数等指标的赋值加权分析,各府州中学教育的发展差异可基本划定:南阳、开封等府为发展良好区,卫辉、河南等府为相对一般区,许州、汝州等地为较为落后区。
