Observance and Innovation:the Double Trend of the Enlightenment of Rural Gentry in the Ming-qing Period

明清时期,士绅主导的乡村教化生成了恪守与超越传统教化精神的双重取向。明清士绅教化的双重取向,既可看作是士绅教化对社会基础性变迁与西学新知东渐的回应,又可解释为士绅的公共身份在新的历史语境中的自然推衍及士绅对非主流文化的彰显。对这一双重取向的探究,将构成一个观察明清民间社会变迁与过渡性社会群体角色转型的深度历史透视点。

During the period of Ming - qing, the rural enlightenment manifested the character of observance and innovation of the traditional enlightenment spirit. The double trend was not only regarded as a response to the vicissitude of social foundation and the Western culture from the West, but also interpreted as the derivation from common identity of gentry in new conditions. Researches on the double trend will make up of a deep historical perspective point to the vicissitude of rural society and the conversion of the role in the metabolic society.
