A Study of the Communicative Act of Chinese Second Language Leamers

摘要 鉴于我国外语学习者低龄化的趋势及其认知水平低、外语语言和语用知识缺乏等因素,本研究借鉴儿童语言发展研究领域中的语用能力分析模式,从交际行为的角度考察了我国一至四年级小学生在交际中英语的使用情况,即在社会交际、言语行为、社会交际一言语行为层面对其英语交际行为进行描述性测量,分析并描述了中国英语学习者第二语言语用能力的发展特点和模式。通过对以上三个层面上交际行为类型数量的统计,和对不同类型交际行为使用频率和比例的计算,本研究发现受试者在这三个层面上的交际行为无论在数量还是在质量上都随着年级的升高而提高。同时,本研究还论述了在四个年级中使用最频繁的交际行为及其发展模式。 Due to the fact that Chinese second language (L2) learners are becoming younger and younger and they are short of both linguistic and pragmatic knowledge in I2,the present study investigates how Chinese EFL primary school children (grade 1 to grade 4) use English from the perspective of communicative act (CA). Specifically,the CAs performed by the children are qualitatively measured at the levels of interchange, speech act and inter- change-speech act combination,which indicates the characteristics and patterns of their L2 pragmatic development. Based on the calculation of the types of CA are engaged in at the three levels and the frequency each type of CA is engaged in,it is found that the CAs performed by the children are improved both in quantity and quality across the four grades. It is also found that there are a core set of CAs commonly used by the children and they show different developmental patterns.
