中国传统文化的四大基本精神——天人合一、以人为本、刚健有为、贵和尚中——对当代中国外交产生了重要影响。"天人合一"的生态观启示了中国的环境外交;"以人为本"的民本观指导了中国外交活动中的领事保护工作;"刚健有为"的进取观激励了中国成为一个"负责任大国";"贵和尚中"的中和观是胡锦涛同志建设"和谐世界"外交理念的文化根基。

The four basic spirits of traditional Chinese culture unity between Heaven and Man, people-oriented, vigorous and promising, harmony and neutralism- have an important impact on Chinese modern diplomacy. The ecological view of ＂unity between Heaven and Man＂ enlightens Chinese environmental diplomacy; the ＂people-oriented＂ view directs Chinese consular protection activities; the ＂vigorous and promising＂ conception encourages China to become a ＂responsible big power ＂; and the ＂harmony and neutralism＂ philosophy are the cultural roots of Hu Jintao^s diplomatic notion---＂building a harmonious world＂.
