A Contrastive Analysis of the Phonetical and Syntactical Functions between English and Chinese Onomatopoeic Words:Reflections on E-C Translation

拟声词是某一特定语言与自然声音相结合的产物,通过比较英、汉拟声词在语音、句法功能方面的差异,从语言认知、语言系统、文化等方面探求差异的原因,加深对于英、汉语语言体系的认识,并从语音、句法的角度探究英语拟声词的汉译。

Onomatopoeic words are those which imitate the a specific linguistic system. Through the comparison of English natural sounds produced physically within and Chinese onomatopoeic words in phonetics and syntax, explored are the linguistic, cognitive and cultural factors that could account for the similarities and differences found in them, which, in turn, will contribute to a deeper insight into the two language systems, and to the strategies for the translation of onomatopoeic words from English to Chinese.
