科学并不是无条件的主宰一切的现代的一神教,思想自由才是最可羡慕的。周作人承认文学和科学不大相合,所以他对科学小说和科学小品的说法都不满意。他以理性和启蒙作为人类希望的根据,同时指出科学也是道德的,它既是人类社会的手段,同时又是目的。

Science is not the unconditional monotheistic religion that controls all the things, and the freedom of thought is the most enviable. Zhou Zuoren recognizes that literature and science are different, so that he is not satisfied with the science fiction and the science woks. He regards the enlightenment and the reason as the basis of the hope of human being, and points out that science is also moral. It is both a means and the goal of human society.
