Harmony with Difference-Fostering the University Culture

大学文化主要是指凝聚在大学的深厚的优良传统之中,在长期育人和办学实践的基础上积淀和创造的大学物质文化、制度文化和精神文化的总和。大学的文化使命和文化性格昭示我们:大学文化必须培育。大学文化发展的现代化、本土化和特色化是大学形成"和而不同"的文化的三条路径。在文化传播中甄选智慧文化,在文化价值冲突中善择价值目标,在文化冲突中寻求制衡之策,在文化整合中找寻多元发展之途,这样才能在更高层面上培育和形成互补共生、特色鲜明的大学文化。

Different universities have the same cultural nature, that is, the culture of the university. As a distinctive form of social culture, university culture, refers to total of material, institutional and spiritual culture created and maintained by the university through long term of educational efforts. Uni- versity culture is generally embodied in the fine traditions of the university. The cultural mission and cultural character of the university shows that university culture ought to be fostered. The modernisation, localisation and characterisation are the three paths to form a university culture of ＂harmony with difference＂. Therefore, it is imperative to distinguish intelligent culture and values with care, and search for balancing strategies and multicultural strategies in cultural conflict. With these measures, it is conducive to create and develop complementary and distinctive university cultures.
