It is generally acknowledged that Philip Larkin' s poetic style witnessed a substantial diversion from Yeatsian modemism to Hardyesque Englishness, which essentially is Larkin's empirical meditation on his own life, thus owing a lot to his practical anxieties. This essay tries to interpret Larkin's Englishness turn from perspectives of his anxieties about life, career and existence.
