The study on the comparison of English Gothic Novels and Chinese Supernatural Tales has its significant importance and value as they share a lot of similarities on the tragic theme, the importance and influence in their own culture, and the structure of the gothic stories, though differ from each other a lot. The paper begins with the background of the emergence of both novels and mainly focuses on the elements, such as the plot, theme, characters to explore the similarities and differences between the two kinds of novels, and their historical backgrounds as well.
