On the Themes of Brooks’ Poetry

格温朵琳·布鲁克斯的诗歌以美国黑人的生活,尤其是双重压迫下的美国黑人女性的生活为主要描写对象。她认为美国黑人们远远没有享受到和白人同等的社会地位和权利,而作为诗人的她有责任把这种不公平的现状揭露出来。她的诗歌意蕴深刻、形式多样,其中既采用了整饬的欧洲传统诗歌的形式,又吸纳了民歌式的自由活泼的语言,尤其擅长运用对比和白描等创作手法,是多种风格和写作手法融合之后的产物。本文拟从人权、女权和种族平等三个方面着手探讨她的诗歌主题,并结合具体作品进行分析。

Gwendolyn Brooks＇ poetry are about the black people＇s life in America. She thinks that these black people, especially the black women who live under twofold repression by society and men, can not have the same rights and social status as the white people. As a black poet, she had the duty to bring out the facts. So she chooses three themes to introduce the black people＇ s life and thoughts to the people all over the word. They are human rights, woman＇ s rights and racial equality. Her poetry are colorful, profound and bright vivacious. Not only are these poetry of the form of the sonnet, but also the ballad. She especially has the talent in comparison and line drawing. And she uses many manipulations in her poetry. This thesis will discuss the themes of her poems by the three sides, human rights, woman＇ s rights and racial equality.
