谭盾这位作曲家，在大都会歌剧院北京奥运巡演《秦始皇》的计划落空，而他本人也没有获得委任奥运开幕式音乐总监一职，他本年对奥运的贡献，除了颁奖音乐以外，就是2002年创作的歌剧《茶》的中国首演。今年7月底在国家大剧院演出的《茶》，正是北京奥运演出季的重头戏。应该这样说，这套制作得以在中国亮相，也算是众望所归，难能可贵了。

Tan Dun's Tea has seen a respectable number of in- carnations since its original co- production with the Netherlands Opera and Tokyo's Suntory Hall. Neither so grand as The First Emperor nor so experimental as his 1996 opera Marco Polo,the Chinese premiere of Tea,directed by Chiang Ching,offers cultur- ally appropriate pageantry at the NCPA.
