The myth of Nuwa (a creator-goddess who patched with stone blocks the holes in the sky made by Gonggong, the spirit of Water, in a conflict with Zhuanxu, the spirit of Fire) reflects both the general idea the ancient Chinese inhabitants had on their geographical conditions and the high position women enjoyed in matriarchy. It is also the reflection of earliest stone totem worship. The myth also has a far-reaching influence on Chinese mode of thinking about "patching" and the spirit of struggle. Besides, the myth of creating human beings by Nuwa also demonstrates three important phrases ancient people had undergone on human reproduction: 1. Human beings were created by the Goddess. 2. Human beings were made by clay. 3. Human beings were created by both men and women. After Nuwa's death, she was said to had turned into another goddess-a goddess who is in charge of having children to those infertile couples. The myth has been having a far-reaching influence on Chinese matrimonial life.
