《玉堂闲话》是唐末五代天水作家王仁裕笔记小说代表作,在中国小说史上占有较高地位,其研究状况值得关注。上世纪90年代以来,学者对《玉堂闲话》的文学地位日渐看高,周勋初和陈尚君对其进行了专门深入研究,解决了有关该作的几个重要问题。《玉堂闲话评注》一书对《玉堂闲话》全面辑佚整理,恢复其原貌,在诸多方面颇有纠谬,功不可没。台湾詹宗祐等人从博物学、历史地理学的角度研究《玉堂闲话,》洞开了另一个天地。

Wang Renyu, whose representative sketchbook was Yutang Xianhua, was born in Tianshui and lived in the last years of Tang Dynasty and the earlier years of the Five Dynasties. The book had a high position in the history of Chinese novels and deserved much attention. Since 1990s, scholars have been paying more attention to the book＇s literary position in literature. A good case in point is the profound and special researches done by Zhou Xunchu and Cheng Shangjun and hence several important problems have been solved. The contribution of Notes and Commentary of Yutang Xianhua cannot be left unrecognized because it has collected and collated Yutang Xianhua comprehensively. Meanwhile, it has corrected some errors in the book. Zhan Zongyou, who is living in Taiwan, conducts a research of Yutang Xianhua from museology and historical geography and therefore opens another world.
