摘要
《百年一觉》是晚清新教传教士译介的为数不多的世俗文学作品之一,但正是这个译本折射出传教士译介活动的主要特点:文学文本的非文学化处理、译介策略上的创造性叛逆和接受环节的创造性挪用。该译本如同传教士译介的其它知识门类一样,并未能实现译者的初衷。新教传教士的译介目的与结果之间的错位为晚清中国思想文化的转型提供了某种可能性。
Bai Nian Yi Jiao, one Chinese version of Edward Bellamy's utopian novel Looking Backward, 2000 -1887, is one of the few western secular works translated by protestant missionaries into Chinese. It is this very translation that embodies the main characteristics of the missionary translation in 19th-centruy China, which are the treatment of literary works as anything but literature, creative treason in translative strategy and original appropriation in acception. On the whole, between the motives and results of the protestant translation project exists a great discrepancy, which nurtures certain possibilities for the transformation of Chinese thoughts and culture at the turn of the 20^th century.
