求同存异:英汉互译中可译性与不可译性现象探析

Translatability and Untranslatability between Chinese and English

可译性与不可译性一直是译界长期争论的话题。英语和汉语属于两种不同的语系,有着各自独特的语言表达形式,折射出不同的文化内涵。本文从语言和文化两方面的视角探讨英汉之间的互译性,旨在说明英汉间尽管在形式上存在着不完全可译性,但语言所表达的内容均可被译为另一种语言。也就是说,语言或文化所造成的不可译是一种暂时的不可译,译者只要从整体上把握原作命脉,就一定能使译文神形兼备。

The limitation of translation has long been one of the core issues in translation. This paper differentiates two major causes of this phenomenon from the perspectives of linguistic and cultural differences. It intends to interpret that most of what is labeled as ＂untranslatability＂ is in fact ＂translatable＂ if tackled with proper strategies and methods. Although full faithfulness is hard to achieve due to existing barriers in translation, translators should strive for the ideal of being ＂creative while not misleading＂.
