Some Application of Samarium Diiodide in Deoxygenation, Reduction and Carbon-Carbon Bond Formation Reaction

The deoxygenation and reduction of some organic substrates with samarium diiodide were investigated. The carbon—carbon bond formation between α-haloketone and aldehyde promoted by samarium diiodide was first reported. A possible mechanism involving samariun(Ⅲ) enolate intermediate formed in situ from α-haloketone with both Sm (Ⅱ) and Sm (Ⅲ)/Ⅰ^- species was proposed.
