在中国现代山水画史上,潘天寿是一位"传统出新"典范。在潘天寿那里,文人画已不再是书斋清玩,或雅集遣兴之物,而是需要认真梳理、研究的学术事业。在中西文化比较的大背景下,中国画,特别是中国山水画已经变成了民族文化心灵和历史情感的寄托,在此基础上,他的山水画创作和理论探索具有了全新的时代意义。
In the history of Chinese modern landscape painting, Pan Tianshou is a paragon of 'innovation out of tradition'. For him, paintings by artists are no longer belongings of private study or collections of personal interest, but noble causes that need exploration and scholarly effort. Against the background of Chinese mad western cultural comparison, Chinese paintings, especially the Chinese landscape painting, have become shelter for national cultural psyche and historical emotion. On this basis, his landscape paintings and theoretical explorations are of novel historical significance.
