Developmental efforts to achieve percutaneous catheter-based therapies for cardiac valve replacement and repair have advanced rapidly over the past several years. A variety of methods to treat mitral regurgitation and to replace aortic and pulmonic valves have al- ready been successfully employed in patients. Percutaneous valve implantation, once considered a novel idea, has become a reality. This nonsurgical approach has proven to be feasible and holds promise. This article focuses on the advanced progress of these innovative therapies.
