Human Civilization and Nature: from Confrontation to Respect

人类文化的本性是反自然。人类文化在对抗自然的过程中发展,导致全球性生态危机和社会-经济危机,对人类持续生存提出严重挑战。应对挑战,需要"文化范式"转型,从人统治自然的文化向人与自然和谐发展的文化发展,开启人类文明的新时代,生态文明的时代。一种成熟的伦理学也要实现类似的范式转型:一种冲突的伦理,人作为掠夺自然资源的征服者的伦理,转变为一种人与自然互补、和谐共生的伦理,尊重生命和自然界的伦理。

The nature of human culture is anti-nature. Human culture develops in the confrontation between human and nature, which leads to the global eco-crisis and social-economic crisis, and challenges the sustainable existence of human beings. To deal with the challenge, we need a transition of ＂cultural paradigm＂, shifting the focus from dominating nature to developing harmonious relationship with nature to start a new era of eco-civilization. Likewise, ethics also calls for a similar transition of paradigm. Human being, in the old paradigm, is looked upon as the conqueror of natural resources, while in the new one, the relationship between human and nature is characterized by respect, complementation and harmonious coexistence.
