A Brief Analysis on the Art of Flower-Bird Painting from Xu Gu

清朝末年号称"海上三杰"之一的画家虚谷,其花鸟画艺术风格冷隽,视角独特、构图奇峭、笔墨奇古,形式感强烈,具有现代构建意味,其意境更是空灵、静穆,迥出同辈,为一代画坛巨将。

Being named as one of ＂the three painters of Shanghai style＂ in the last years of Qing Dynasty,Xu Gu created his Flower-Bird Paintings with a combination of art features： sharp in contrasting, unique in visual angle, odd in structuring, traditional in drawing, impressive in shape and modern in construction style. Those paintings embody an artistic conception of intangible freedom and peaceful harmony which are quite outstanding from contemporary painters. Thus he is deemed as a great master of painting for that time being.
