Comparison and Translation of English and Chinese Metaphors from the Perspective of Cognition-Function

现代隐喻理论认为人类的语言和思维都具有隐喻的特点。隐喻不仅是一种修辞手法，而且是一种文化反映和思维方式，广泛存在于英语和汉语中。隐喻概念体系根植于语言、思维和文化之中。文化具有鲜明的民族性，不同语言文化的隐喻有同质性，更具有异质性。翻译是跨文化的认知活动。深入探讨英汉隐喻之间的关系，在翻译过程中运用恰当的策略，将会促进不同文化间的传播和交流。

According to modem linguistics,metaphor is not only a rhetorical device but also a reflection of culture,a way of thinking-metaphorical concept system. It is rooted in language,thought,and culture. Culture is distinctively characterized by its nation. Metaphors from different cultures are both homogeneous and heterogeneous. Translation is also cognition between cultures. With a careful study of the relations between English and Chinese metaphors,several strategies of translation are suggested to promote the cross-cuhural communication.
