The realistic spirit runs through the creation of Chinese literature. This paper probes into the developing trace of the realistic spirit in Chinese literature of the 20th century. It covers the charactertistics of the realistic spirit from the May 4th Movement up to the new times and discovers how the lower social class inherits and develops the realistic spirit to gain its literary status in the history of literature.
