Verdi's Luisa Miller is an opera in three acts based on Friedrich von Schiller's play,Kabale und Liebe.It belongs to Verdi's early period,preceding masterpieces such as Rigoletto,Il trovatore and La tra- viata.Luisa Miller's first performance was given at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples on December 8,1849.Kabale und Liebe was Schiller's magnum opus reflecting the social reality in Germany at that time,touching on such subjects as freedom of marriage and democratic ideals.
