《老人与海》中的人称代词变异及其翻译比较

A Study of Personal Pronoun Deviations in The Old Man and the Sea and their Translation Comparison

本文运用语言学的变异理论和译文对比的方法,对《老人与海》原文中的语言变异情况和五个汉语译本中的相应翻译处理进行了深入研究。研究发现,原作中存在大量的人称代词变异使用的情况,这些变异对于人物形象的塑造、人物性格的刻画、以及小说主题的凸显都有着非同小可的作用。而五个汉语译本均不同程度地忽视了原文中的这个语言特点,未能准确地向译文读者传达原文作者的意图,使译文读者丧失了领略海明威这位语言风格大师更多的精彩之处的机会。笔者主张译者应忠实地保留、再现原语文本的特殊语言风格,以使译文读者有机会获得与原文读者相同的感受。

In this paper, by adopting the deviation theory of linguistics and the method of translation comparison, the author makes a profound research of personal pronoun deviations in The Old Man and the Sea, and their translations in five Chinese versions. Research shows that ample examples of such deviations exist in the source text. These deviations play a significant role in the characterization of the main character and the foregrounding of the theme of the story. While translating the novel into Chinese, translators of the five versions, however, more or less ignored this language feature of the source language text, and failed to convey accurately to the target language text readers the intention of the writer, and as a result, caused the target language readers to lose an opportunity to appreciate more of the excellence of Hemingway the language master. Therefore, the author maintains that translators should try their utmost to retain and represent the particular language features of the source language text so as to provide an opportunity for the target language readers to experience and perceive as much as the source language readers.
