Characteristics of Lunyu by Gu Hungming and the reasons behind phenomenon

辜鸿铭一生致力于东学西渐并极力维护中国传统文化的尊严,作为近代中国人自己向外国翻译中国儒家经典的先驱,并在西方读者群中引起了巨大的轰动。本文尝试着分析辜《论语》翻译的特色,并从主、客观方面来探讨呈现出这种翻译特色的原因。

Gu Hungming devoted all his life to spreading the oriental into the west, upholding the dignity of the Chinese traditional culture. As the forerunner of modern Chinese who translated Chinese Confucian classics all by himself, Gu created a sensation in western readership. The paper tries to analyze the characteristics of his transtation Lunyu, and discuss the reasons which cause the formation of the characteristics, from subjective and objective aspects.
