Facing Undesirable Custom

同一习俗在不同的社会环境中会得到不同的反应,焚烧冥币习俗在过去或今天的一些农村中是神圣的,然而却被今天的许多城市居民看成是陋俗并想办法将其革除。在革除前,制定政策者应该了解其发生的原因、实现的功能及在现代社会的变迁,更要明白任何习俗的形成和消亡都需要一个很长的过程,革除焚烧冥币习俗不可能在短期内实现。

The same custom in different social context will get different response. The custom of burning down the sacrificial paper money is sacred in several years ago or in some rural area, even today, but it has been regarded as the undesirable custom in modern city. Before abolishing the undesirable custom, official policy maker must explore the reasons and functions of burning down the sacrificial paper money and its changes in current society.It is prerequisite to understand that the formation and disappearance of any custom will experience a long rime. So, abolishing the undesirable custom can not complete in short time.
