Lao She's Disillusion of Utopia and His Pursuit of Chinese Culture Identity——From Cat's City to Lethal Gun

欧洲文化在某种程度上对留学英国的老舍在认知结构等方面形成了某种制约。更明确的说,就是欧洲关于东方的知识使老舍认识中国文化和欧洲文化形成了某种定式,让老舍形成某种"自我东方主义"的思维方式,使老舍在小说创作中受这种思维方式影响而不自觉。20世纪30年代老舍回国后,试图摆脱这种影响,在这方面开始了痛苦的文化探寻:突破自我东方主义的影响,探寻中国文化身份。他的小说《猫城记》和《断魂枪》记录了这一转变历程。

In some degree, Lao She＇s cognition in Chinese culture was restricted by European culture. Lao She had a mode thinking of self-orientalism that influenced his novel creation unconsciously. In the thirties of 20th century, when he came back from Europe, Lao She began to break the self-orientalism and tried to find the Chinese culture identity. This transformation could be found in his novels of Cat＂ s city and Lethal Gun.
