东盟自成立之日起,其组织成员通过协调和实施一致的国际经济政策来增强东盟在国际经济谈判中的地位,为东盟各国外向型经济的发展奠定了坚实基础,推动东盟各国社会经济发展,促进了东盟组织的发展和壮大。东亚金融危机后,经济上受到挫折的东盟,凭借其多年积极实施共同国际经济政策所积累下来的战略资源,开始为务实的、积极主动的区域协调发展而努力,表现出其国际经济政策既要以拓展国际市场,谋求经济稳定和发展,又要谋求区域稳定、安全和可持续发展的地缘战略意图。

From its inception, ASEAN has consolidated its status in international economic negotiations by the feasible integration of international economic policy, and laid a solid foundation for the development of export-oriented economy, for the social economic development of the ASEAN countries and the development and enlargement of the ASEAN. Since the East-Asia Economic Crisis, the ASEAN countries, with their long-time experience in practicing integrated international economic policy, have endeavored to achieve an active ＂coordinated development of all regions＂ for an economic resurgence. It thus appears that the aim of Southeast Asian nations＇ international economic policy is twofold： first, to expand their international market so as to ensure the economic stability and development; second, to achieve their strategic geopolitical purposes in regional stability, security and sustainable development.
