Explanation of Literati Drawing

文人画不等于中国画,它是中国绘画历史和体系中的一部分;中国画也不等于文人画,而是中国传统文化影响之下出现的绘画类别的总称。文人画作为艺术是了不起的,但本质上是脆弱的、充满消极的逃避思想的东西。笔墨游戏的中国画最多千余年,而真正意义上的中国画应该可以以万年计。

The literati drawing is not the traditional Chinese drawing. It is a part of the history and system of Chinese drawing. The traditional Chinese drawing isn＇ t the literati drawing either, but it is the general call under the influence of traditional Chinese culture. As a kind of art the literati drawing is very good, but in essence, it is quite fragile and full of dispirited mind. The written-playing Chinese drawing at most can last one thousand years, but the traditional Chinese drawing in real meaning should last thousands and thousands years.
