Pioneer and martyr of humanism:analysis of the YANG Zhu school and its lack of humanism and edification

杨朱及其学派从诸子百家争鸣时期"言盈天下"的显学到后世的几近湮灭,除了复杂多端的外部原因,其极富感性的学术精神、极而言之的表述方式,使他的哲学思想更容易被割裂、被扭曲。分析杨朱哲学的湮灭与中国哲学人本主义传统的阙如之关系,及由此给社会政治、经济、科技、文化等方面带来深远的影响,说明弘扬个体价值对于中华民族的伟大复兴、对于和谐社会的进程具有积极意义。

The scholar YANG Zhu and his school were quite famous during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period in the history of China when many philosophical schools contended with one another, but they have been seldom studied shortly after his death. To explain the phenomenon, there are several internal causes besides complicated external causes, including its academic spirit full of strong geist and extreme expressions that make his ideas be divided and distorted more easily. By analyzing the relation between the annihilation of the YANG Zhu philosophy and the lack of humanism tradition in the Chinese philosophies, this paper expounds their far-reaching influences on the political, economic, scientific and technical, cultural and other aspects of the Chinese society so as to show the positive functions of individualism in the revival of the Chinese nation and the process of building China into a harmonious society.
