This article has analyzed the principle of color chart and color measurement system to explain the relationship between the flop effect and lightness values from different view angles, and also introduced the worldly used flop index to show the flop effect. Meanwhile, this article has described the structure, principle, characteristics, operation and practicability of the SGY - A flop index test instrument, which was specialized to be used for measuring the flop effect of metallic basecoat.
