CEPCHEMISTRY OF MINOR ELEMENTS IN SEDIMENTS FROM THE NORTH MID-PACIFIC OCEAN

This paper reports the contents of the minor elements (Li, Rb, Sr, Cr, Cu, Zn, Pb, and V) in sediments collected from the north Mid-Pacific Ocean and discusses the relations among the elements and between each of these elements and types of sediment, the parameters of sedimentary environment. The results indicate that the contents of most of the minor elements were controlled by the types of sediments, size of sediment grains, depth of water, pH, etc., and the contents of minor elements were closely related to the abundance of micromanganese nodules. A strong positive correlation exists between contents of Sr and Ca or CaCO_3, while a negative correlation between Sr and other elements.
