摘要 《毕司沃斯先生的房子》是2001年诺贝尔文学奖获得者V.S.奈保尔代表作之一,同时成功入选为20世纪百部最佳英文小说。象征手法的出色运用是小说《毕司沃斯先生的房子》的一大艺术特色。文章从毕司沃斯先生、毕司沃斯先生的房子、哈奴曼大宅、黑暗意象几个方面对名著《毕司沃斯先生的房子》中的象征手法作探讨,指出象征手法的运用营造了作品的气氛,深化了作品的主题。 A House for Mr. Biswas is regarded as one of the representative works of V. S. Naipaul, the winner of Nobel Prize for literature in 2001, and is also one of the best classic English fictions in the 20th century. One of the artistic features of A House for Biswas is the author＇s successful use of symbols. This paper analyses the using of symbolism in this novel from the following aspects： Mr. Biswas, A House for Mr. Biswas, Hanuman House and dark images, and points out that the use of symbols creates a proper atmosphere for the novel and deepens its theme.
