在唐传奇中,有三篇写唐玄宗的历史纪实小说:《长恨歌传》批判了唐玄宗好色纵欲、荒政致乱;《开元升平源》歌颂唐玄宗求贤心切、虚心纳谏;《东城老父传》揭示了唐玄宗喜好斗鸡,导致朝政荒废,国家衰败。它们在一定程度上反映了唐玄宗在位时早、中、晚期的历史真实。

Three pieces of historic documentary fictions about Emporor Xuanzong in the Tang Legend are listed; Kaiyuan Shengping Yuan, Ever-lasting Regret and Old Father in East County which reflected the real history at the early,the intermediate and the later period of Tang Xuanzong＇s reign in Tang dynasty.
