Financial Turmoil Tests the Supporting Capacity of Telecom Sector

尽管一些电信企业的第三季度业绩表现乐观,但金融风暴的确已经开始在全球多个行业蔓延。 10月6日,道琼斯工业指数四年来首次跌破1万点,并创下797点的单日跌幅纪录。截至记者发稿时,道指已逼近7500点,标准普尔500指数甚至创下11年来的新低。同样,出于对全球经济和企业盈利能力的持续忧虑,法国CAC40、德国DAX30和英国GTSE100三大指数近期全面下挫，多数上市公司降低预期。

Although a number of telecom enterprises achieved hopeful performance in the third quarter,the impact of financial turmoil has already began to spread in many industries worldwide.It seems nobody can survive when storm comes.However,economist's research shows that in the period of economic recession,the sectors which could keep growth and play a support role in driving the whole economy,first is energy,and second is telecom.Many analysts believe that telecom sector may have immunity against most of the global economic recession. This view lights up the hope for the future of the telecom industry. The expert of Teleinfo Institute of CATR,MIIT thinks that the financial turmoil has less impact on China's telecom operators,but has serious impact on equipment manufactures,especially on terminal vendors and internet value-added enterprises.Therefore,operators should pay more attention to cost control and prudent investing activities.Manufacturers must pursue state credit guarantee when they carry out overseas contracts,or they can use RMB as the settlement currency to avoid the risk of exchange loss brought by foreign currency devaluation. Meanwhile,terminal vendors may face new period of restructuring to strengthen innovative capabilities,and internet companies may need to expand financing sources.
