Cancer Ward, a novel by the Winner of the 1970 Nobel Prize for Literature, the late Russian writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn experiences great difficulties in its publication process-the main reason is the argument whether caner is simply a disease or a symbol in the novel. By analyzing its content, reviewing the participants＇ opinions at the 1967 Meeting of the Soviet Writer＇s Union, definition of illness/cancer as metaphor by＇Susan Sontag, the author argues that Cancer Ward is using caner as a symbol for Stalinism.
