Lexical competence is a multi -dimensional concept. Productive vocabulary ability has been defined in relation to the language skills of speaking and writing and plays an extremely significant role in vocabulary acquisition. This paper discusses the strategies to promote the productive vocabulary ability in the EFL classroom setting,including training in near synonym association, lexical collocation and lexical contrast.
