This paper expounds the background of the subject study on the role positioning of higher education in the construction of the new countryside, the subject of the 1 hh 5-year plan of China Higher Education Society, analyzes the functions and significance of this subject on the reform and development of Chinese higher education, introduces the situation and contents of the recent studies on the similar subjects in China and foreign countries.
