This article discusses Thomas Hardy's three minor novels, The Trumpet Major (1880) , A Laodicean( 1881 ) and Two oft a Tower (1882). Written in a transitional period of Hardy's career as a novelist, these novels demonstrate Hardy's exploration of historical philosophy, transgression on traditional realism and reflection on the relationship between science and humanity. These novels illustrate Hardy's attempt to develop his own style and contribute to the success of his major novels.
