A Comparison Between the Chinese Word "Shuangguan" and Its English Equivalent "Pun"

从定义、分类和手段三方面入手,对汉语的双关修辞格和英语的pun进行了比较,指出双关并不等于pun,两者之间是部分对应的关系。

Based on the comparasion made between the Chinese word ＂Shuangguan＂ and its English equivalent ＂pun＂ in terms of their definitions, classifications and methods, this paper is intended to point out that the Chinese word ＂Shuangguan＂ is not completely identical to ＂pun＂ its English equivalent and only under certain circumstances can the two words become interchangeable.
